In the right amounts, the right place and when injected in the right patient, a subtle facial enhancement with botulinum toxin or hyaluronic acid filler injection can go a long way to refresh and rejuvenate one's appearance.
Botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) injections relax muscles of the face, resulting in relaxation of the tension lines of the skin and a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles. It takes about two weeks for these injections to start taking effect and the muscle relaxing effect lasts for approximately 2.5 to 3 months.
Hyaluronic acid filler injections are injected in order to replace facial volume loss. In subtle amounts, and in selected patients, these fillers can work wonders in improving the appearance of the "tear trough" or orbital rim hollow. In the right patient, when injected at the correct depth and in the amounts, HA filler material can be used to improve the shape of the face, including by augmenting the jawline, effacing the upper eyelid hollow and even augmentation of the cheeks by injection in the deep fat pads.
I cannot stress this enough: fillers should be injected in small amounts. Over injection of filler is unnatural and the long term effects can be difficult to reverse.
